Scott Ferguson

CHARITY MANAGER

"It will soon be three years since I accepted the role as manager of DD8 Music, and what an incredible journey it has been!

I've dedicated around 13 years to working in the 3rd Sector, starting soon after I graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone in Fine Art as a mature student at the age of 30. My career began with Volunteer Dundee as a project coordinator in the North East of Dundee. I also spent some time as a volunteer coordinator with the fantastic organization Advocating Together. Afterward, I moved on to Enable Scotland, where I worked predominantly in the Employability Sector for several years before applying for a very different role in Kirriemuir.

Since joining DD8 Music, no two days have been the same, especially after becoming a father around the same time!

DD8 Music is a special place that truly captivates those who cross its path, and this has certainly been the case for me. I am extremely proud of our growth. We have more staff, projects, sessions, and participants in our activities than ever before, expanding our reach across new areas in Angus—and we are still looking up!

Next year marks the 20th anniversary of DD8 Music, and we hope you will all celebrate with us!

Here's to the next 20 years."

Bex Warne

Youth Service Manager

Hi, I’m Bex! I’ve been with DD8 Music since early 2022, and I oversee the day-to-day running of the youth service. That means making sure projects and sessions run smoothly, supporting staff, keeping communication going with young people and parents, and helping everything stay on track behind the scenes.

One of my favourite parts of the role is helping young people bring their ideas to life. I look for funding, shape projects, and make sure their creative ideas actually happen. I also handle our social media and communications, sharing what our talented young people are up to.

I’ve been working in the third sector for a decade now, in roles always focused on supporting young people through music. I have an undergraduate degree in Social Science and I’m currently finishing a Master’s in Counselling, which helps me support young people in the best way I can.

I play guitar and DJ, and I bring that into sessions wherever I can. I’m also passionate about videography and editing, and I try to document as many projects as possible so young people leave with something tangible they can look back on and feel proud of.

David Falconer

Head of Music Development

"Hi! I’m David, the Head of Music Development at DD8 Music. I was one of the original youths way back at the origins of DD8 Music in the early 2000’s, when it was still held in the Northmuir Primary School assembly hall!

I’ve played in numerous bands for the last 20 years; TD/Grim Fandango, Dirty Judas, Waterstone Crook, Kashmir Crows, and currently This Is How The World Ends and Oceans on Fire. I played at the very first Bon Fest in the Town Hall, and it’s absolutely blown my mind to see how it and DD8 have grown throughout the years!

After gaining a degree in Audio Engineering, I did occasional freelance recording work at DD8 over the years, as well as volunteering at events.

My first major project with DD8 was with my friend and colleague Steve Gibbons, with the Make Some Noise project. This was a fairly intensive song writing/recording/mixing/mastering project, working with some incredible young people from across Angus, and I’m very proud to have worked with them all.

Now I’m privileged to be a part of the DD8 family proper, and have a lot of exciting ideas and opportunities that I want to bring to the charity!"

Iain Macleod

Youth Development Worker

"Hey! I’m Iain and I’m the Youth Development Worker at DD8 Music.
I grew up in a small town in the Highlands, where I was heavily involved in the local music scene. My first job was as a youth worker at a drop-in youth cafe, which provided a place for young people to go and socialise, as well as create art and music together. This was such a vital resource to me growing up, and I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to be involved now in a similar role with an amazing organisation like DD8 Music.
After leaving the Highlands, I moved to Glasgow, where I went to university to study a degree in Music Technology. Since graduating, I've worked as a teacher and Academic Coordinator for an online language learning platform, as well as an audio engineer, where I've been running my own audio production business and touring the world as a front of house engineer.
I'm also a professional musician, and I've been recording and playing shows as a bass player across the UK, Europe and beyond for over 15 years with a wide range of bands and artists.
It's a real privilege to be able to work alongside the next generation of young musicians and I can't wait to meet you all"

Dáire Henry

Volunteer Co-ordinator

Hey! I’m Dáire and I’m the Volunteer Co-Ordinator at DD8 Music! I joined pretty recently, in August 2024, but I’m already having a great time! As someone who had to teach themselves a instrument growing up, DD8 feels like just the resource I could have used as a kid.

I’ve been doing work in the charity sector in various capacities since I was a teenager, but began my most influential experience doing d/Deaf advocacy in Dundee through the Dundee University Sign Language Society. I did this work whilst working on my undergraduate degree in History from the University of Dundee. I’m looking forward to expanding my horizons in the third sector here at DD8 by making a real difference through the important work we do here.

I have played drums for around 8 years now, and have worked on and off as a professional drummer over the last few years. I look forward to continuing my work with music whilst contributing to the next generation of musicians.

I look after our volunteers, making sure all of their needs are met and ensuring they are enjoying their time helping us out. I also work at recruiting new volunteers so if you are interested in helping out please do get in touch at daire@dd8music.com
